Game Recap

For the second time in a week, the Lady JV Trojans took a long bus ride down to the Columbia area, this time to play the hosting Demons of Lugoff-Elgin High School. The two teams met up last year during the Irmo End of Season Tournament and finished in a tie when the Demons scored with 5 seconds remaining. Under the overtime rules of the tournament, there was no penalty kick shoot-out to settle the game. Based on the result and other games, the Demons advanced to the finals against West Florence by a single point over the Trojans. The Trojans would go on to finish third in the tournament while the Demons finished second.
The game opened up like any other, and much like the early games this season for the Trojans, they took it to the Demons, keeping possession for the majority of the first half, dominating possession and winning nearly every 50/50 ball. The field was the biggest obstacle for the visitors, as the smaller dimensions allowed the home team to constantly pack the box, making shooting difficult. One good pass to an open player led to the first goal of the game, and the second of the half was on mishandled ball by the goalie that fell at the feet of another player, who took advantage of the miscue and rewarded themselves with their third goal of the season. The score would stay at 2 nil going into the second half of action.
This half was much more evenly split, as the Trojan bench was emptied and a number of players were able to get valuable minutes, including the teams number two goalie, who made three beautiful saves late in the game. The Trojans got a third goal early in the half for a 3 nil lead that would hold for the rest of the game despite the momentum shifting more and more to the Demons as the half wore on and more subs came into the game for the visitors.
The win gave the Lady JV Trojans a 7-0-0 record with 33 goals scored and no goals conceded one-third of the way through the season, with the hardest part of the schedule yet to come for the young team. Next up for the Trojans are the Warriors of Indian Land in another away game. These two squads met during the pre-season and the game ended up a 1 all tie, with the Warriors dominating the game in every aspect except in score. On Friday, the Trojans host the Nation Ford Falcons in their first region match-up of the season.
